Montmartre celebrates its harvest

Did you know that there is a vineyard in the heart of Paris? And that the harvesting of its grapes is the occasion for a huge popular festival? Take advantage of your stay at the Hotel Les Plumes to enjoy many activities of the Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre (Montmartre Harvest Festival), which celebrates its 90th edition this year. Here is an overview of the event’s busy schedule.
A village celebrates
Montmartre was one of the last suburbs to be incorporated into the expanding capital, and the place still holds on proudly to its village spirit. Strolling through its cobbled streets, you can see one of the last cultivated vineyards in Paris. Much loved and carefully maintained, each year it provides the entire quarter with an excuse to party. Schoolchildren, association members, residents, and artists, as well as visitors to the city and Parisians from other districts take part in the various fun activities that fill these five days of viticultural celebration. This year, the harvest festival takes place from October 11th to 15th.

The Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre boasts various essential events. The schoolchildren's feast marks the launch of the festivities. This is followed by a big dance evening in the 18th arrondissement’s municipal administration building, as well as the first concerts of the Décibels Vendanges festival. Then comes the Parcours du Goût, a large gathering of producers and food artisans, a huge parade of the associations of France, the Ban des Vendanges and finally the big popular closing ball. And this is just a quick overview of the many activities that take place on the famous hill at this time!
The friendly and festive spirit of the Harvest Festival presents a little-known aspect of Paris, that of a city made up of neighbourhoods; “villages” with strong personalities and vibrant traditions.
