A little more than a year ago, the Grand Musee du Parfum opened in Paris at 73, rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré. The majestic mansion that houses it exudes luxury and elegance and the fragrances inside will take you on a truly unforgettable sensory journey.
Delve into the world of perfume
History of Perfume, Sensory Immersion and the Art of the Perfumer are the three stages you'll explore on your journey through the world of fragrance. It's a journey through a very modern setting with a design that's as delicate as the perfumes it highlights. Discover the first perfumes that were developed in the Nile Valley for sacred rituals, revel in the exquisite scent of Grasse-grown roses just before they're distilled, or explore the establishments of some of the great Parisian perfumers. You'll be enchanted by the carefully reconstructed offices of Coco Chanel or by Paul Poiret's smile as he explains what the rose means to them.
Senses in turmoil
Staircase filled with flacons, a wall of plants, petals to sniff, a perfume organ – nothing has been spared in the museum's quest to make the heady world of fragrance accessible on both intellectual and practical levels. Your senses will be put to the test as you listen, sniff and inhale to find hidden perfumes in the depths of your olfactory memory. Breathe the scents of myrrh, orange, lavender and so many others. As you inhale, you'll know instinctively which were worn by Cleopatra as she bewitched Mark Anthony, or what perfumes were chosen by great seducers like Casanova before undertaking tumultuous new conquests– a sobering thought.
