It has taken some 10 years of work, including the careful restoration and study of the paintings held by the museum, which boasts the world’s largest collection of masterpieces by the great Renaissance polymath. In addition to the 5 paintings and 22 drawings from the Louvre, the curators have assembled as many works as possible from other sources.

In addition to his numerous other accomplishments, Leonardo da Vinci was a supremely skilled and inspired painter. Indeed, it seems that he placed his artistic creativity above all else and that his studies of the world in all its facets were chiefly a means of bringing life and truth to his work.
