Categories : Exhibitions and Museums, published on : 7/25/21
Like all the Parisian museums, the Musée Carnavalet reopened its doors on May 29th. However, this particular public reopening has a special resonance because the museum had been closed for renovations for four years. During your stay at the Hotel Les Plumes, why not take the time to discover this superb place dedicated to the history of Paris?
A place full of stories
Of course, we could tell you about the 625,000 artifacts to be found in the Musée Carnavalet, each one telling a part of the story of Paris from prehistoric times to the present day. We could also mention the 1½ kilometres of exhibition galleries and the two fabulous 16th century mansions in which they are housed. However, the Carnavalet is chiefly defined by its exquisite ambiance. It also retains the memory of one of its most famous occupants, the 17th century aristocrat Mme de Sévigné. These walls were also the first to house a museum open to all. From these centuries of history, there remains a very special atmosphere, born of Renaissance and classical architecture and the beauty of the gardens ...
Temporary and permanent exhibitions
The long period of closure made it possible to completely rethink the museography and to create a route through the galleries that allows you to immerse yourself in the different eras of the city of Paris while meeting, through the amazing collections, its most famous inhabitants. From the decorative panels that once adorned the most beautiful salons in Paris to the armchair of Voltaire, by way of the desk of Mme de Sévigné and engravings depicting the French Revolution, each room is an exhilarating presentation of culture and art that defines the capital’s key eras.
Less well known than the Louvre, the Orsay or the Quai Branly, the Musée Carnavalet nevertheless holds unique treasures that offer testimonies to the city’s thousands of years of existence. From your Hotel Les Plumes, it will only take you about fifteen minutes to reach this essential attraction in the heart of the Marais.
